Sgt. John July

Sgt. Seminole Scout

 

John July enlisted in the Seminole Negro Indian Scouts Detachment June 5, 1875 at Fort Duncan, Texas by Lieutenant Markley for a six months term at age 17.
He subsequently reenlisted for 13 - 6 months, 11 - 1 year, and 2 - 3 years terms. His last reenlistment was on January 25, 1898 at Fort Ringold, Texas by Lieutenant Hall. He died on March 3, 1900 at Fort Ringold at age 38 due to cirrhosis of the liver.
